Thinking of joining a drama society?  Want to know more?

Here we can give you a flavour of how it is to be a member of this society but if you would like to talk to one of our members please fill in the contact form below with your details and we’ll happily give you more information.

This drama society has a long and illustrious history with a well-deserved reputation for offering the local community a wide variety of top-notch plays, musicals, pantomime and farce.  Members have the opportunity to work with some really experienced directors, actors, and musicians who take pleasure in supporting and developing the inexperienced enthusiast as much as the seasoned amateur performer.

The society rightly prides itself on the quality of the social side of membership.  Many members have chosen to stay with this group for decades developing lifelong friendships and even marriages!  New members are given a very warm welcome and every encouragement and opportunity to hone their skills.

Every month one of our members hosts a play reading evening at her home.  Members are welcome to attend this opportunity to read a raft of different works and to socialise with others from the society.

Of course, it’s not just about acting.  Every drama group needs a supporting crew and we are always delighted to welcome those interested in set-design, lighting and sound, stage management, costumes, as well as the front of house functions that are so important to any successful production.  So if you’re thinking of joining with a non-acting friend there will almost certainly be a role for them to play as a valued member of the society.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some answers to questions we think you might have.  If this doesn’t cover it just fill in the contact form below and we’ll come back to you.

How many productions are there each year?

Four.  Usually January, March, June and October.

How frequent are rehearsals?

Each rehearsal period is about 8 weeks and requires 2 weekday evening rehearsals per week with 3 or 4 Sunday afternoon rehearsals usually in the second half of the period.  During show week cast and crew members are called every night.

How much variety is there?  Is there a theme to this society?

There is a lot of variety.  We are not a society that focuses on one genre such as musicals. This coming season we will produce a classic play, a large cast comedy, an American comedy and a Shakespearian play.

Is it a closed shop?  Are the good parts given to long-standing members preferentially?

Absolutely not!  Casting committees are designed to ensure that the best person for the role is offered the role.  Decisions are not made according to friendship or longevity.  We pride ourselves on quality, opportunity and openness.
